Get Well Soon

Synopsis[]

Miss Appleberry fills in for Mrs. Jenkins after she gets hurt and has to stay home during recovery. When the class prepares to visit her, Fritz decides to make something special for her. But Grace worries that she won't like it.

Plot[]

One morning Nora is eating breakfast while observing Norman, her pet lizard. She is excited to be taking him to school as their new class pet, now that he's too big for the glass bowl her family kept him in. Mrs. Jenkins came up with the idea, and Nora goes on to express how much she likes her teacher. The same happens as the Franks are preparing to leave for school.

The students are surprised when they arrive to find Mrs. Appleberry standing outside instead of Mrs. Jenkins. She takes everyone inside and explains that Mrs. Jenkins fell the other day and got an injury, so she will be away for a few days. She has her teaching plans and knows what they need to do, and later they will pay her a visit. The students are saddened, but relieved to know her injury isn't serious. After Timothy expresses the desire to make her something, Miss Appleberry decides that they can all make her a get well card to take to her. She sits down to play the piano, as they do before beginning every day.

Afterwards the class gets to work on their cards. Lily gets an idea to make a large card with Doris, Grace and Lily, while Fritz gets up and starts gathering other various items- like Nora's glass bowl after she gets Norman familiarized with his new home. She agrees, but asks to have it back once he is done with it. As this is going on, Miss Appleberry stops the Frank's from drinking out of the faucet without using cups, surprising them after she reveals that Mrs. Jenkins wrote it down for her. Soon recess is held, and Fritz resumes gathering items; like dirt and worms. He lets the others know what he's up to and they are alarmed, with Grace bluntly telling him that Mrs. Jenkins won't like such weird things. He ignores her and during lunch, asks the others for some donations, namely the trash and leftover food scraps. Grace continues to disapprove and tries to convince Fritz not to go through with it.

Soon, In The Spotlight arrives and they sit down to watch the Frank's go over the racing event they saw. They explain how these events work and show everyone their brand new toy cars. Afterwards, school has come to an end and everyone prepares to board the bus. Miss Appleberry reminds them of their trip the following day and says goodbye to them. After Fritz arrives home he lets his mom what happened. She is concerned after he mentions that he didn't want to make her a card- but he tells her that he cares about his teacher a lot, and wants to make something special. He shows his mom and and she happily approves after realizing what his plan is.

The next day, the class heads over to Mrs. Jenkins place and they are very excited. Grace still worries over what's going to happen regarding Fritz's gift, and upon arrival Mrs. Jenkins brings everyone inside to sit down. One by one they take turns handing over their cards, and she compliments each one before Fritz goes last. He explains why he prepared a special gift for her and reveals that the various items he's been collecting have been made into a bird feeder. Grace is surprised by this, but she expresses relief and approves of the gift. Mrs. Jenkins loves the gift and thanks Fritz and she gets up to hang it outside of her window. She loves to watch birds, so now they can keep her company. As the students observe the birds who show up, she starts a discussion about them.
