Synopsis[]

Summary[]

Mrs. Jenkins tells the class that Hilltop School will be having an open house this Friday, and for it she would like everyone to make a science project. Everyone excitedly begins to brainstorm their ideas, with Lily mentioning that she has a plant that eats flies. Yoko says that she has a way to make rainbows appear, and Timothy wants to talk about snakes. Fritz decides to showcase an experiment on how a rocket works, which eagerly gets their attention. Timothy nicknames him "Professor Fritz", which makes him happy. Once he gets home Fritz gets started on his experiment while his mom makes a cake. He asks if he can use the egg carton if she's done with it and constructs the rocket, gathering up some baking soda and a balloon to use with it.

The next day, Timothy observes Fritz's work and tells him that he's already finished. Fritz decides to do a test demonstration with his project, but it doesn't work out the way he was hoping. The balloon sputters around the room and lands on Mrs. Jenkins head. Everyone finds it amusing but Fritz is very disappointed with the end result. Fritz decides that he really can't be "Professor Fritz" if an experiment doesn't work and he tells the others he can't help them after they begin to come to him later.

The Franks observe Lily feeding her plant muffin crumbs, and Nora grabs Lily to show her Yoko's rainbow experiment, which she performs by holding a prism near some light. Claude and Grace are making a weather vane and use a fan to simulate the wind. Timothy watches Charles' magnet crane project and tries it out himself, then he shows his snake project to Charles, until he realizes he ran out of green paint. So they head off to look for more. When they head into the cupboard, they see Fritz's rocket project in the garbage and wonder why its there, so they go to look for him. Fritz decides that instead of making a rocket, he's going to grow a beansprout instead. Timothy explains that they already did this though, and Fritz states this is why he's going to do it. Timothy and Charles tell Fritz that everyone enjoyed the test flight, but he didn't like being laughed at. They try to convince him that it wasn't him that was funny, just the balloon, but Fritz doesn't want the same thing to happen during the open house. Timothy then asks Fritz how a real rocket works and he draws one, and when Timothy sees the "fins" on it, he remarks that its too bad they can't be attached to the rocket he made. This suddenly inspires Fritz and he thanks them before fetching his project.

On the night of open house, Timothy shows everyone his snake project. Nora showcases how a siphon works, moving water from one glass to another. The Frank's show the effects of static electricity by using a balloon and sticking them to things. Fritz is the last presenter of the night, and proceeds to set off the rocket, which has the same result as his earlier demonstration. This makes Charles and Timothy worry until he explains this was intentional. He reveals the fins he made for the rocket and explains how they make it work properly, and he shows his experiment to them again, this time having success. Timothy is very happy and compliments Fritz, causing him to remind Timothy that its "Professor Fritz".
